Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a monthly subscription?
There is no subscription.
Do I need anything technical in my home to use PillDrill?
There are only two requirements to use PillDrill: an electrical outlet and Wi-Fi.
Do I have to own a smartphone?
No. The app provides the fullest experience, but a smartphone is not required to use PillDrill - especially for those less comfortable with technology. We have designed PillDrill so that anyone can use it, regardless of age or technological aptitude.
What platforms does the app support?
The PillDrill app supports both Android and iOS. Unfortunately, at this time the PillDrill App is not in the Apple store. It is anticipated to be back in the store shortly. You can also log in from this website if your version is not supported. The only browser that are supported to connect your PillDrill are Safari, Edge and Firefox.
What browsers are supported with PillDrill?
The PillDrill website (www.pilldrill.com) can be used on any browser connected to the internet.
PillDrill being connected via Wifi in the HUB STATUS section can only be connected via Safari, Edge or Firefox. At this time, Chrome browser does not work to connect your PillDrill to your WiFi.
What is the difference between using PillDrill for individual use and family use?
The basic difference is the type of in-app notifications you get. If you use PillDrill to manage a loved one’s routine, you will get status updates (e.g. “Mom just scanned her morning dose”, “Mom is feeling Good”) so you can stay in the loop throughout the day. If you use PillDrill to manage your own routine, you will get reminders (e.g. “Insulin is due now.”, “You are an hour late to take Lisinopril”). You can also log doses directly through the app instead of using the Hub.
I take medications at different times of day, how will PillDrill work for me?
You have complete control over your schedule and can precisely customize the schedule and reminder of each medication.
Can I use PillDrill when I travel?
The Hub is designed specifically for in-home use. If you’re traveling for an extended period of time, we recommend taking the Hub with you and re-connecting it to a different wi-fi network at your new location. If you’re traveling for a short period of time only, however, we recommend using the app to track your medication instead of the Hub. The Hub can travel but it’s not meant for portable use.
How many people can receive notifications for a given user?
It’s unlimited. You can invite as many people as you want to receive notifications for a given user.
Can two people use the same PillDrill?
No. PillDrill is currently designed for use by one person only.
Is PillDrill hard to setup?
PillDrill is extremely easy to set up. All you have to do, in this order, is (1) plug in the PillDrill Hub, (2) connect the Hub to a Wi-Fi network, (3) create your medication schedule using the app or website. The whole process takes about 10 minutes.
Where should I keep my PillDrill
You should plug in PillDrill near your medications at home, and in range of your Wi-Fi network.
How big is the Hub?
The Hub measures 7” x 3” x 3”. It’s about the size of a small alarm clock.
How do I attach the scanning tags to my medication?
Each scanning tag has an adhesive on the back. Just peel off the protective layer and stick it onto your pill container.
Are the scanning tags reusable once I stick them to something?
The tags are re-programmable, but the tag’s adhesive is not re-usable. For prescription pill bottles that you continue to refill, we recommend transferring the tagged lid from one bottle to the next. For medication where transferring the lid is not possible, we recommend using the elastic tag holders included in each kit. The tag holders make any tag re-usable.
Can I attach scanning tags to irregularly shaped containers?
Yes. Each PillDrill kit includes three elastic tag holders (similar to luggage tags) that allow you to attach scanning tags to irregularly shaped containers.
How do I set it up for someone who is not tech-savvy and lives far away?
With the exception of Wi-Fi pairing, the entire setup process can be done using the app.
Do I have to use the weekly pill strip?
No. It’s completely optional. If you use a weekly pill box, ours will work great for you. If you prefer to keep your meds in their original packaging, feel free to stick to the scanning tags. Or you can use both.
Can I track non-scheduled medications?
Yes. Tracking non-scheduled medications works the same way as tracking scheduled medications — just attach a scanning tag to the container. The only difference is that you don’t create a schedule for them.
What if I need extra scanning tags or pill strips?
Extra scanning tags (M-Z) and extra pill strips (rows 3-4, 5-6, 7-8) are available for purchase through the "order now" button.
The volume is pretty loud, can I turn it down?
The volume can be adjusted from off to full volume using the advanced menu option on the device or through the app in the “Hub” section.
I want to use PillDrill by my bed. Can I turn off the screen at night?
Yes, simply hold the down button for 3 seconds to put the screen to sleep. The device will wake up on your next button press, medication scan, or scheduled alert.
How big are the pill pods? Will it fit all of my medication?
The Pill Pods are about an 1x1x1” and will fit about 7-10 average size pills.
Is there a warranty?
Yes. There is a one-year warranty.
